(I'm Leaving) This City

This city
may have millions of inhabitants,
the streets here
may be gridlocked, full of cars,
but this town
isn't big enough for all of us.
I'm leaving
and I'm never coming back.

My building
must have been built in the seventies,
I'm guessing,
on account of all the cracks.
I've lived here
for six years and seven months, and still
the neighbours
seem to whisper as I pass.

Our bedroom
has become a sort of sanctuary.
We hide here
in the daytime, in the dark,
but this bed
isn't big enough for both of us.
I'm leaving
and I'm never coming back.
